What are the main types of intercom systems?
Audio entry systems
An IP intercom system (intercom phone) delivers two-way audio communication between an operator and a visitor, who must press a call button installed near a door to initiate the entry request. The intercom is typically connected to the business’s own IP network, so the call can be answered from a desk phone, computer or headset.
Video entry systems
A video door entry system (or video door phone) works in the same way as an audio entry system, but also features a video intercom, adding the benefit of being able to visually verify who’s there. Video footage can be viewed before access is granted or denied using an entry monitor, handset or computer.
As well as being an additional layer of security, the use of an intercom phone system or video door intercom system provides added convenience for your staff and helps leave a professional impression on your visitors themselves.
